Barton Hall 5/8/77

According to some, the May 8, 1977 show at Cornell University's Barton Hall is considered by many to be the best Grateful Dead show. This show has something for everyone, including new Deadheads, and is a good way to understand the band's unique qualities and wide range.

I love ❤️ 5/8/77 but I also think Englishtown 9/3/77 is one the best also. From the Intro to the end. A MASTERPIECE. 😀❤️💀🥀

A very famous show for a few reasons – it was readily available as one of the first shows on the tape trading scene, was undeniably played well and also beautifully recorded. By 1977, I had seen the Grateful Dead about 25 times (first was 4/21/71) and was in Boston on 5/7/77. I still feel the next night in Buffalo was a better show, has none of the goof ups of Cornell and the Comes A Time might is so beautifully sung by Jerry & Donna and Jerry’s playing is like the edge of a knife, one of their best performances ever I feel. Anyway, thanks for keeping the scene alive for Dead Heads old and new and I look forward to receiving my merchandise.
