84 years since he showed up. 31 since he left. Neither one has slowed the party down.

Jerry Garcia was born August 1, 1942, and he's been gone since August 9, 1995. Somewhere along the way heads started calling the stretch between those two dates "The Days Between," nine days to remember why we all got into this in the first place.

It's not a memorial. Jerry hated being treated like a monument when he was alive, and we're not about to start now. It's a reason to find a bar band doing "Sugaree" a little too long, a backyard with a stereo and cold beer, or a real venue with a real lineup, and go stand in a room full of people who get it.
